I'm having to clean up my folder again.  I've backslid fifteen times over by downloading too much cc which means I have to figure out what precious objects my poor sims will have to do without.  But I'm not making too much progress because for every item I delete, I find four more to replace it!

My download folder is totally unorganized and I really have to do something about it soon. I just have to figure out the best way to do it.

Will my organization is intense:
Buildmode
Clothing
Skins
Eyes
Terrian/outdoorplants
Maxisrecolors
makeup
objects--
Files are seperated by name-not artist
          A,b,c, and numbers
           d,e,f,g..etc
           k through P
           R through v
           Etc
This allows my to literally find an object instantly and check delete recolors.

haven't we all tried several ways of organizing?  Wink

at the moment my folder is sorted like this..

 - Default replacements
 - Genetic (skintones and eyes)
 - Hacks
 - Clothes
 - Maxis Recolors
 - Makeup
 - Not Share friendly
 - Floors and Walls
 - Hairs
 - Maxis match
 - Sims
 - Terrains
 - Share Friendly Downloads > sorted by creator/site

I used to have one folder for sofas, one for counters etc. but found it too boring and time consuming.

I really do like the "not share friendly" - map cause when I build house to upload at annosims I have the opportunity to take all those "not-to-be-shared" - things out of the game and then I don't have to become mad every time I build those houses...  OK

My is everything mashed up together.
Not good, I know - But I haven't had any problems with it.
Anyway, I'd lose control over it - I have over 3,000 files.

I have 40321 Downloads. I think you already know having one folder could go wrong. I used to have only one folder when I had only 11000 downloads. Then my game crashed and I had to figure out what was wrong. I basically started all over downloading. Now everytime my game crashes, I can figure out which one it is simply by removing one of the folders. One I find out which one is crashing, all I have to do is look at the last files that were modified. So no more anxiety.

I am sure your way is good for you though.  Grin

I used class by sites sub folder. The sites like mts2, in the their folder i do the sub folder by creator.

Out my game i have a folder named "telechargements"(downloads en French) where i put the photo with the compressed files.

This folder is also class by site and also by date ( i have a "coup de cœur " section (favorites downloads) in my site and its better to find the links ). Once i did my update i transfer to the site folder. But  i show houses where i play, i always spent a lot of time to find all links

My system is not perfect, i see many of you class it by kind of objects... I really wants to find the best way to organize ...

Mine is by the date I install (and sub-folder inside is by the website)
So I can know easily if the files I just installed has a problem (then I delete the folder) lol

I have a base of sub folders within the downloads folder -

BodyShop
HomeCrafter
Objects
Hacks&Mods

Then I follow the set up of the website that I have downloaded from
eg. MangoSims titles hers using french, so my Mango folder is like this...
Mango/Chambre/name of set/(contents)

For TSR it would be
TSR/name of creator/name of item/(contents)

It makes it a damn site easier to store downloaded files and to find them (for me at any rate).

I think I have around 6000 downloads and I'm always weeding out the ones that I don't use or no longer like - so if I add 200 files to my game on any day... I probably delete the same number... and those 6000 files are kept within about 550 folders.

I think I read somewhere that the more folders you have within your downloads folder - the longer it takes for the game to read the files and load?

Okay, to you this might seem dumb, but to me this is a fantastic way to set out a folder. My Download folder is set out like this.. I have separate folders saying where i got the downloads from, say Simply Styling for example, the folder will say Simply Styling, then inside that folder, there will be other folders saying Clothes, Bedroom, Floors etc etc. Same with the others, such as Mod The Sims 2, i will abbreviate the folder calling it MTS2 and do the same routine as the Simply Styling folder, and my CEP will have it's own folder saying "CEP" with all the CEP stuff put inside the CEP folder. Say if you have downloaded a clutter from Simply Styling, then make a folder with in Simply Styling calling "Clutter" then make folders in the Clutter folder, so if you have downloaded a kitchen clutter, make a "Kitchen" folder inside the Clutter folder and place your kitchen clutter download inside that. Having a neatly organized Download Folder makes things so much easier. Also, to give a bit more help, Here's Collection Icons link http://www.modthesims2.com/download.php?t=123761 Mac pointed these out, that i found in a post, so there's a direct link, they will help tidy up your Downloads Folder some more & for newbie down-loaders who know nothing about it, take some time to read this if you like, here's the link http://linna.modthesims2.com/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:Downloading_for_Fracking_Idiots_2 it helped me out a lot, so I'm sure it will help you newbie down-loaders!

Hope I've helped!

Well... mine kinda looks like this:

Downloads (folder)
- Makeup (folder)
  -- TSR FortuneCookie NaturalsEyeshadowSet (folder)
  -- MTS2 ShojoAngel Watershine3DLips (folder)
- Rooms (folder)
  -- MTS2_buggybooz_926773_BB_ShakerliciousKitchen (folder)
     - A4S Engelchen ShakerliciousKitchenRecols (folder)
  -- TSR CashCraft TheRegencyCollection (folder)

and so on.  The recolours go into those sub subfolders in their own folders.  If I ever have to delete a set, I can just take it out a folder at a time.  Make it easier to find.
