Inspired by Art
I was thinking it might be fun to make a challenge based on Art and Inspiration (http://www.mackat.dk/livingetc/issue1/19page.htm). The challengers would get X paintings to chose from and would then have to make a room that was inspired by the painting they picked. How does that sound?

ooh, I really like that idea!

I think the paintings should be ingame paintings, so people have a change to hang them in their room. Will you help me find paintings in different styles and colours. I think I will need five paintings.

sure, do you want maxis only, or are cc paintings okay too?

They are fine - it is better then one of the EP/SP paintings - everyone can get a CC mesh and recolour

from yours I like 2,4,5,6, and 8 the best. + 10 and 13. That's still a lot, but it narrows things down a bit.

Mac: (edited numbers in - less confusing)

i love nr 5...:)

Title: Re: Challenge ideas
Post by: macthekat on June 11, 2008, 07:20:12 am
I agree... Lets see

2: Powerful, colourful and fun
4: Abstract with a punish
5: Fun and huge, but not as high impact colours as 2 and 4
6: Classic English art - very traditional - soft colours
8: Traditional Japanese - soft colours
10: Soft motive - strong and interesting contrast. I would like to see some rooms in soft pink and black
13: Abstract and decorative. Not as high impact colours as 4

That is 8...
I think we should only have 2 or 5 not both + 12 or 4

I love both 2 and 5, but if I had to choose it would be 2. speechless liked 5, so I guess we'll need some more votes when it comes to those.

I think you  skipped number 12

I am going to write up the challenge then I had some breakfast

------------------------

+ I am going to write the dorm room challenge.
Dorm Rooms
One round contest. Decorate a dorm room for one of X student. You have to work in a small room (will make a blueprint) and you can not change: the window, the door, the wallpaper or the floor. Other then that you will have to decorate for one of the X students' taste. They will all need a bed, a dresser and a desk+chair.

I would like some help to make the students sims (just a picture of them) and write a mini bio about them. I need the following students:
The nerd
The sports fanatic (what is this stereotype called?)
The Casanova (male or female)
The musician
The artist (could be any kind of arts and craft - even photography)
The wild card (What did I not think about)

I am working on the text: http://livingsims.freesmfhosting.com/index.php/topic,127.0.html
I would like some comments on them

a budget challenge-maybe, design the ultimate $20,000 house (starting funds for a new sim). there could be 3-6 families to chose from with various personalities and needs (ie Family A has a big dog and needs a yard for thier athletic twin teens; Family B are newlyweds that run thier own business and need an office; Family C has 4 kids and 2 pets so need 3/4 bedrooms; etc) and allow entrants to build the house. Or, specify that the house needs 3 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, etc. Limiting the lot size or not-depends, since some might make a great home on a 1x1 lot, others need more space like a 5x5 lot.

That sounds like a good idea  :OK:

That is a good idea Starr.

I want to start an all maxis challenge, choose any room you want and decorate it only with Maxis furniture and deco. You can use custom bedding, curtains and walls/floors, what do you guys think?

Sounds cool! Would Maxis recolors be allowed or not?

Title: Re: Challenge ideas

starrsim - you might want to make some kind of rule about under/over-prized items. Some creators just set totally stupid prices on their object. What I do then I play poverty challenges and things like that is: Then I buy something under priced I buy a tree or some plants to make up for it. Like most maxis sofas cost at least 200 § so that is what CC sofas should have on their prize tack at the very least, so if a sofa is priced 5 §, then I buy a pine tree to make up for the difference.

Oh, that's a good idea! Making CC content of comparable prices.

Also showing the in-game screen that has the cost of the house. The challenge would include both exterior and interior of the house-so siding, brick, plants, windows, doors, etc. It would be interesting to see how some houses look-either urban styles, cottage styles or rich beachy house.

How do challenges get started? Do I simply start it-or do I need to write the complete challenge here and someone reviews it before it goes to the challenge board?

Yes you just put the things together and post it in "magazine" challenges (since you are staff) - if you need to gather some stuff for it put in (not open yet) in the title line

Because of our article about quick gardens... I would like to host a challenge where you had to decorate a garden from scratch in under an hour... would anyone be interested?

I'd be interested in the garden challenge too, I am wondering how the time factor would fit in though.

Because it is a challenge... we will just have to trust you. Just time your self.
